If an 9yr old gets it, why don’t the airlines?

This quote is great! As is the rest of the post from a favourite blogger, Mediamum, that I follow. She is an Australian Mum that is now living in the US, and writes about her life experiences. And she writes well. And she can tie a jelly snake into a knot using only her tongue. Really!

This post that I am linking to is about her experiences with airlines, and particularly with a trip from Australia to the US.

You just have to sympathise with her, but cheer for her ideas and comments.

Such as :

Sheesh. I wonder who’s more precious? My kids completely expecting video on demand in their seats, or these airline staff who seem to think we owe them something more than the price of a ticket.

Instead of focusing on leg room, loyalty programs and discount prices, it would be great to see an airline focus on really going beyond the call of duty to make your flight the best you’ve ever had. If an airline marketed to mothers, they’d see these women are the decision makers, who travel with their families (more ticket sales), and to be honest, it’s the simple things like offering a pair of hands when needed that will make a mother like you more.

Or maybe that’s just too hard. Too much to ask.

I did have a program called foldersize for displaying a size of a folder in the Explorer window. It was great. You could see if a folder contained 4Mb or 150Mb and visually sumize if you could fit these on a USB stick, a disk, and many other uses. It comes from here http://foldersize.sourceforge.net/

It worked.

It was a third party program ('cos Microsoft can't / don't want to supply such information). They seem to want us to right click and check properties a hundred times a bloody day.

But now I am trialing Windows 7, and yep, it does not work.

And neither does a dll file called dirsize.dll from here.

Bugger !!

Microsoft installs Firefox add-on for .NET.

Grrrrrrr !!!!

Just a warning, if you had not noticed, and use FireFox, there is an add-on called Microsoft .net Framework Assistant. This add-on is different from most as you cannot uninstall it because the uninstall option is inactive in Firefox!!

The Cove

We went to see a preview of "The Cove" and wow, this is a wake up call.

Confronting without being cringe material.

Makes me really question the Japanese values. They are SO different from what I consider normal.

The film was logically laid out, very well edited, and posed some great questions. Answers to these will only come after we (lots of us) complain, write in blogs and papers, and generally agitate for change.

"The Cove follows a team of activists and filmmakers as they infiltrate a heavily-guarded cove in Taiji, Japan. In this remote village they witness and document activities deliberately being hidden from the public: More than 20,000 dolphins and porpoises are being slaughtered each year and their meat, containing toxic levels of mercury, is being sold as food in Japan, often times labeled as whale meat.

The majority of the world is not aware this is happening. The Taiji cove is blocked off from the public. Cameras are not allowed inside and the media does not cover the story. It's critical that we get the word out in Japan. It's critical that we get the word out—everywhere. We believe that once the Japanese people know, they will demand change."

We started to watch the movie Duplex (2003) last night..... and we made it in about 15 minutes before we switched it off and did something else.

Anything else.

Predictable, grimacable, terrible.

I guess that we shall never know what happened in the end.

As if we care!

Yeast

Sheesh !! What is it with yeast powder in this house? For some reason, my Loved One has dropped powdered yeast all over the kitchen floor.

TWICE !!

And not just a little, but about a cup full of the tiny little pellets that roll and bounce and get all over....

Then they are cleaned up - sort of. In secret. Until I walk in and just happen to glance down and see puddles of the yellow powder in several places over the floor. This is AFTER it has been 'cleaned'.

There has to be something in the odour that makes the containers 'jump' from her hands and fall to the floor.

Anyway, it has been cleaned up, again, and we shall await the next installment in the yeast powder saga.

Friends and the BBQ

How good is it? A warm sunny day as Summer starts and a BBQ at a friend's home. Children too excited to say hello to the grown-ups, a wonderfull array of foods, perfect weather. Topics of conversation vary, the trampoline is well used, a drink of lemonade spilt on the grass. The sound of a wine cork mixes with the crack of a beer can. Tales of travels in places the other side of the globe are heard, along with discussions of a five year old's schooling, and the saga of the new back fence. See how it exceeds the local limit?

The food and drink is great, the children climb a tree. Chairs are scattered under the shade and a treasure hunt starts.

Laughter.

Sunshine.

Conversation.
